TATA.ev to Expand India’s EV Charging Infrastructure to 400,000 Charge Points by 2027

TATA.ev, a key player in India’s electric vehicle (EV) sector, has announced an ambitious initiative to significantly expand the country’s EV charging network. The company aims to more than double the number of charging points, reaching 400,000 by 2027.

With over 200,000 EVs already on Indian roads, TATA.ev has played a crucial role in the nation’s shift toward sustainable mobility. Since 2019, the company has been actively working to enhance charging accessibility through partnerships with Tata Group companies and strategic infrastructure development in high-adoption areas.

Scaling Up India’s EV Charging Network

TATA.ev’s latest expansion plan builds upon its existing ‘Open Collaboration’ framework, which was launched in 2023 to foster partnerships with Charge Point Operators (CPOs) and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs). This initiative contributed to doubling the number of public charging points in just 15 months, surpassing 18,000 chargers.

The next phase, termed ‘Open Collaboration 2.0,’ aims to accelerate EV adoption by significantly increasing the availability and reliability of charging infrastructure. Key highlights of this initiative include:

• 400,000 total charging points nationwide by 2027.

• 30,000+ new public fast chargers installed via collaborations with leading CPOs.

• TATA.ev Verified Chargers to ensure reliable charging stations, accessible through the iRA app.

• 500+ TATA.ev Mega Chargers, offering high-speed charging with priority access for TATA.ev customers.

• A 24/7 Charging Helpline for real-time assistance.

• A Unified Payment Wallet to streamline transactions across multiple charging networks.

Mega Charger Network & New Partnerships

As part of its flagship initiative, TATA.ev has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Tata Power, ChargeZone, Statiq, and Zeon to develop a Mega Charger network featuring 500 superfast charging stations in key cities and along major highways. These chargers will feature multiple charging bays, ensuring high-speed charging at safe and well-equipped locations.

While the TATA.ev Mega Chargers will be open to all EV users, TATA.ev customers will benefit from priority access and cost advantages. Users will also be able to locate and pay for services at these chargers through the iRA.ev app, reducing the need for multiple charging applications.

Building a Future-Ready Charging Ecosystem

TATA.ev’s latest push comes as EV adoption continues to rise in India. With over 5 billion kilometers driven by EVs nationwide, the company has leveraged real-world insights to identify optimal locations for charging stations. The introduction of Verified Chargers, Mega Chargers, and a dedicated helpline is aimed at reducing range anxiety and ensuring a seamless user experience.

Commenting on the initiative, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, stated:

“TATA.ev has been at the forefront of India’s EV revolution, not just by introducing world-class electric vehicles, but also by building a robust charging infrastructure nationwide. Through ‘Open Collaboration 2.0,’ we aim to expand the network to over 400,000 charging points in the next two years in partnership with leading CPOs. This initiative will improve charging speed, reliability, and accessibility, further accelerating India’s transition to electric mobility.”

As India moves toward a more sustainable transportation ecosystem, TATA.ev’s latest efforts could play a significant role in shaping the future of EV infrastructure. By focusing on scalability, accessibility, and user convenience, the company is setting the stage for widespread EV adoption across the country.
