KTM India has unveiled the latest generation of its adventure motorcycle lineup, bringing significant upgrades to the 390 Adventure, 390 Adventure X, and 250 Adventure. These models are built on an all-new platform, marking a departure from the previous generation while incorporating modern technology and improved performance.
2025 KTM 390 Adventure: More Capable Than Ever
The new KTM 390 Adventure has been launched at ₹3.68 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and boasts substantial upgrades over its predecessor. While it retains its adventure-focused DNA, the bike now features an all-new chassis, suspension setup, and enhanced technology.
Powertrain and Performance
Under the hood, the 2025 390 Adventure borrows the 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine from the latest 390 Duke, producing 46hp and 39Nm of torque. This powerplant is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and comes standard with a bidirectional quickshifter. The engine is housed in a steel trellis frame, suspended by adjustable WP Apex suspension, which enhances its off-road capability.
Key Feature Additions
• Tubeless spoked wheels (21-inch front, 17-inch rear)
• Cruise control – a segment-first feature
• Lower seat height (830mm) and higher ground clearance (227mm)
• Increased kerb weight of 183kg
Despite the minor weight gain (6kg over the previous model), KTM has focused on improving rider ergonomics and handling, making the bike more accessible to a wider audience.
Competition and Market Positioning
At ₹3.68 lakh, the 390 Adventure has no direct rivals in its segment. The closest competitor is the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, which is priced lower but offers a different riding experience. KTM has also confirmed that a 390 Enduro R variant is in the works and will be introduced soon.
2025 KTM 390 Adventure X: More Affordable, Road-Biased Alternative
Alongside the flagship 390 Adventure, KTM has also introduced a lower-spec, road-focused 390 Adventure X, priced at ₹2.91 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This version retains the same engine and chassis as the standard model but with a few cost-cutting measures.
Key Differences from the 390 Adventure
• 19/17-inch alloy wheels instead of tubeless spoked wheels
• Non-adjustable WP suspension
• Slightly lower seat height (825mm)
• Lighter kerb weight of 182kg
• Simpler electronics suite
Despite the budget-friendly approach, KTM has updated the TFT display, making it the same as the latest 390 Duke and 390 Adventure models. The bidirectional quickshifter is also standard, adding to its value proposition.
At ₹2.91 lakh, the 390 Adventure X is ₹77,000 more affordable than its fully-loaded sibling, putting it in direct competition with the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 (₹2.85 lakh – ₹2.98 lakh, ex-showroom, Chennai).
2025 KTM 250 Adventure: Entry-Level ADV with Major Upgrades
KTM has also updated its entry-level 250 Adventure, priced at ₹2.60 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Built on the same new platform as the 2025 390 Adventure models, the 250 Adventure receives a complete design overhaul, aligning it closer to its bigger sibling.
Design and Styling Update
• Dual-stacked LED headlights
• Tall windscreen and beak-style front mudguard
• New tail section with an underbelly exhaust
• Available in two color options – Orange and White
Engine and Performance
The 249cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine continues to power the 250 Adventure, producing 30.57bhp and 25Nm of torque. However, KTM has enhanced its rideability with a bidirectional quickshifter, slip-and-assist clutch, and ride-by-wire throttle.
Chassis and Suspension
Unlike the 390 Adventure, the 250 Adventure uses a two-piece steel trellis frame without an aluminum sub-frame. Suspension duties are handled by WP Apex USD forks (200mm travel) and a preload-adjustable monoshock (205mm travel). The bike rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels, making it more road-friendly.
Braking and Features
Braking is managed by a 320mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc, paired with dual-channel ABS. KTM has also included an off-road ABS mode, allowing riders to deactivate rear ABS when needed.
Other notable updates include a 5-inch TFT instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation—features borrowed from the latest 390 Duke and Adventure models.
Market Positioning
The 2025 KTM 250 Adventure competes against the Suzuki V-Strom SX and Yezdi Adventure in the Indian market, offering a balance of affordability, performance, and off-road capability.
KTM Strengthens Its ADV Lineup
With the launch of the new 390 Adventure, 390 Adventure X, and 250 Adventure, KTM has reinforced its position in the adventure motorcycle segment. These updates make the bikes more capable, feature-packed, and rider-friendly, catering to both hardcore off-roaders and budget-conscious adventure enthusiasts.
The 390 Adventure and 390 Adventure X cater to different riders—one focused on off-road capability and tech, while the other prioritizes affordability and road-biased performance. Meanwhile, the 250 Adventure serves as an entry point into KTM’s adventure lineup, offering strong performance in a more accessible package.
