Ferrari SP-8: A One-off Roadster based on the F8 Tributo

Synopsis

The F8 Spider was already an exciting car but now imagine how much more distinctive it would be as a one of one limited edition roadster, that too being designed and built by Ferrari’s Special Projects team. Well, guess what? An influential customer from Taiwan did exactly just that and what we got in the end as a result is the SP-8.

Spec-Sheet

It derives its engine, chassis, performance and look, nomenclature (kind of) from the F8 Spider. And as is always the case with Ferrari one-offs, they were tight lipped to give out any specific details of the SP-8, but the twin turbocharged 3.9L V8 rear mid-mounted motor produces the same 710 HP, 770 N-m of torque here as the F8, coincidentally also the exact figures as the track focused 488 Pista* which can do the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 2.8 seconds.

*Pista = Race track in Italian, not the nut/dry fruit.

Roof Situation

While the F8 Spider is a conventional drop-top convertible, the SP-8 bids adieu to the roof in opting for a open roadster format and according to Ferrari, the top going ciao meant that a lot of virtual simulations, wind tunnel testing and track tests were required to bring the SP-8 to the same level of function, rigidity, stability and comfort as the F8.

Styling

The desgin of the SP-8 is clearly related to the F8, but it definitely adds its own persona everywhere you take a glance at; with a redone much longer, more assertive splitter and the entire front half being finished in unpainted glossy iridescent Blue Sandstone carbon fiber, while the rear is done in matte Argento Micalizzato gray. Ferrari say the exclusive five spoke wheels represent a modern take on their classic prototypes and also hark back to the alloys of the legendary and very iconic F40, widely known for being the last car officially signed off and aprroved by Mr. Enzo himself.

Show me the Money!

Furthermore, ‘tradition’ dictates that with any Ferrari Special Projects car, the manufacturer will neglect to give any specifics and ignore to state any pricing details how much ever you try to find out and dig around, with all of this fanfare created to give such one-off creations an aura of exclusivity; but its absolutely clear that how much ever the figure is, it is exceedingly higher than the roughly ₹4 Crore (only) starting price of the F8 Spider.
