If you’re looking for a powerful V8 performance car, the options are limited and expensive. The Audi RS6 and RS7 can cost between Rs. 70 Lakhs to Rs. 1 crore in the used market, and the BMW M5 is similarly priced. However, there’s a forgotten performance sedan in the Audi lineup – the Audi S6. We reviewed a tuned Audi S6 that makes 600hp with RS7 turbos!
The Audi S6 is part of the Audi S range, offering a more understated performance option compared to the RS models. Its design doesn’t overtly scream performance (Cough Original Panamera Cough), making it stand out without drawing too much attention. This specific S6 features cosmetic enhancements like the RS Kit and 5 Spoke RS rims. Its 4.0 litre Twin Turbo TFSI V8 engine produces 600 hp, and it’s paired with a 7-speed DCT Transmission for quick and powerful performance. Owning a tuned S6 also opens you to more intellectual conversations with the observers who will be craving answers to unique questions other than “How Much Are You Selling It For?”
The interior of the S6 is also stylish and doesn’t look dated if you are willing to ignore technological aspects. The infotainment system folds down into the trim to give the interior a welcomed clean look. The buttons feel as if you want to touch them and it is a refresh from all the screens we have in the modern interiors. A simple Apple Carplay and Android Auto Upgrade is enough for years of high-mileage cruising! This S6 has Audi Exclusive interior with diamond stitching on the seats and carbon fiber veneers for a luxurious and stylish look. The owner has made some modifications, including adding Carbon Fibre veneers to different trim pieces and installing an RS Flat Bottom Steering wheel, showcasing that it’s a performance car.
When you drive the S6, the sound is mesmerizing. The air intakes and RS7 turbos create a powerful, spaceship-like whoosh. The Milltek exhaust adds to the amazing sound. You don’t feel the speed at first, but once past 3000rpm, the S6 pushes you into the seat. The handling could be better, especially for cornering. The stock S6 is on Air Suspension which is good for cruising, but a Strut Suspension is recommended for better cornering. Despite that, the S6 may make you consider whether to opt for a “True” Performance Car like the RS6 or RS7, especially when you consider the price
A used S6 will cost around Rs. 30-40 Lakhs and this setup makes it an enticing option if you want to save a bit of money over a stock RS6 and RS7. It should be noted that maintenance can be expensive and it isn’t the best when it comes to corners. However, the biggest problem with the S6 is finding one. These weren’t sold in massive numbers and you need good luck finding one in respectable condition. Consider buying it as it’s more cost-effective than an RS6 or RS7 if 1000hp isn’t a priority for you. Just keep aside an S6 repair fund!
